Healthy Hydration

Staying hydrated is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our bodies are made up of 60% water and it is essential for many of our bodily functions. From regulating body temperature to transporting nutrients, water plays a crucial role in our well-being. However, many of us don’t drink enough water on a daily basis. Here are a few tips for staying hydrated:

  1. Set a daily water goal: A good rule of thumb is to drink at least half your body weight in ounces (ex. If you way 120 lbs. you should drink at least 60 oz if water). However, the amount of water you need can vary depending on factors such as your activity level and climate.
  2. Keep a water bottle with you: Having a water bottle with you at all times can serve as a reminder to drink more water. You can also use a water bottle with a straw to make drinking water more enjoyable.
  3. Add some flavor: If you’re not a fan of plain water, try adding some fruit or herbs to it. Cucumber, lemon, and mint are all great options. Some healthy alternatives to water are electrolyte drinks such as LMNT or Hi-Lyte.
  4. Drink water before, during and after meals: Drinking water before and during meals can help you feel full and eat less. Drinking water after meals can help digestion.
  5. Listen to your body: If you’re feeling thirsty, it’s already a sign that your body is dehydrated. Pay attention to the signals your body is sending you and drink water when you need it.
  6. Monitor your urine: A good indicator of hydration is the color of your urine. If it’s light yellow or clear, you’re well hydrated. If it’s dark yellow or amber, you need to drink more water.

By following these tips and making an effort to drink more water, you can improve your overall health and well-being. Remember that staying hydrated is a daily habit, so make sure to make it a priority in your daily routine.
